That's The Spirit!

After begging my man, my sister, and everyone else... no one would carve pumpkins with me.. or if they would, they didn't have the time. My focus for the end of the year is to enjoy the holidays (including Halloween) and doing the things that I have always enjoyed. The man always says "I'm boring, I don't like that stuff" to EVERYTHING. It is so hard for me, cause sometimes it is just nice to get excited about something.. even if it is simple, or dumb, or "small minded" or... whatever.
I went to the store to pick up some Kale today (can you believe it, I have never tried kale) and decided that I was buying a pumpkin and carving it. I was in a debate as to if I should carve a tradition pumpkin face or an "OM" sign. I went with the Pumpkin face. After all, I didn't want to cut my hand off! less is more. I pulled all the goop and seeds out (one of my favorite parts) and are preparing those to roast. And there (above) lies the finished product. What do you think?

Happy Halloween!!! :) Go do something fun that makes YOU happy!

Metal, Sparkly Things and Memories.

I came across an old memory today. I knew it was there all along, but I rarely open it and always put it to the back of whatever container it is. Pushing it out of my mind, pushing it (subconsciously) out of my life. Its sparkly, shiny, a relic from a past life (or so it seems)

Its a ring. It has a marquise cut diamond centered with baguettes fanning out beside it in a white gold band. Full of broken hopes and dreams, full of broken promises, full of lessons learned, and some good memories added into the mix as well.

It is my (former) engagement ring and I don't have a clue what to do with it.

At first, I didn't want to give it back to him. I was so in love with him, so hurt by some choices he made that I wanted to hold on to what I could. It was like keeping that ring, and holding on tight was a way to keep myself together. It took me weeks to take it off. Finally, I put it in its appointed box and it has remained there ever since. A couple of times in the last couple of years I look at it and feel the pain becoming less and less with every time I open the box. Now I realize that what happened was a good thing. I can open the box without being depressed for hours afterward. Now I just feel sorry for such a sparkly ring. What does one do with this kind of jewelry? It needs a home that will admire it, that will keep it warm, and make someone else smile. It is not something I would every think about wearing again, not even if I were to have it reset. Pawning it is lame. Selling a cursed ring sounds like it wouldn't be such a good idea on Craigslist or Ebay. Should I give it back to him? Should I leave it in its box? Should I give it to someone? Donate it to charity?

I have the good memories left in my heart, and live daily with the lessons I learned. I do not need it as a reminder in anyway shape or form as I have moved on... but I don't know what to do with it.

What would you do?

Hehe...

Courtesy of Lazy Blogpost generator (This was so funny! give it a try!)
I mean, lets face it... I am so easily amused :)

Holy Snapping Duck Do! I just had a cup of tea and realized I have not updated this since people stopped clapping and Tinkerbell died... You would not believe the fairy dust I have to clean up. Stupid Global Warming!.

I am lost in a sea of pseudo-olde-english with finding Jesus (after someone told me he was lost), being distracted by the shiny, just generally being a biatch to the bodyguards of the blogger I am stalking, my day seems to be a litany of stuff and giggles from the second I am woken by murderous Teletubbies to I see my darling's 10000 text messages. I am avoiding recapture. life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get.

I will try to remember I promised you won't blog until the next time booze prices go up and I have to get sober for a while. No, really! Unless of course the pool with the cocktail bar is heated!.

HOLY CROW! I LOVE this blogger!

Happy Monday Blogworld!
I spent a better part of last night surfing blogs. I had an urge to surround myself with something real, something beautiful, something inspiring and ....

Here is what I found!!! Naturally Nina

You know it is a good blog when you start reading, read the archives and when there is more options for "older posts" at the bottom... you feel sad. I am officially a fan!

And in other news..Let me tell you about my Sunday. Half my day was spent lounging around with a stack of movies and a person near and dear to my heart. I got up to cook breakfast and that was about it. Then,in the afternoon, for reasons not quite apparent to me at the time.. I passed out. The first time in my whole life. I have had head rushes before, I have felt light headed before, I have seen spots before, but NEVER have I EVER passed out before. Out of sheer luck I happened to be hugging said near and dear person who caught me. It was only for a couple seconds but it shook up my whole day.
The phrase often said of close friends and loved ones is "they catch you when you fall" well.. yesterday was a true illustration. It made me that much more thankful for the people I love, that love me back.
So, to those who both figuratively and literally catch me when I fall... Thank you. You mean the world to me.

Body Worlds 3

Wow. Wow. Wow. (Did I say WOW!?!?)

I went to The Leonardo yesterday and saw Body Worlds 3. I am usually one of the most squeemish people you will ever meet when it comes to bodies (of animals, of humans, etc) but I woke up yesterday morning and decided I needed to go. It is a rare opportunity to be able to see it.... and while it was here I thought I would seize the day.
There was a plastinated camel, even an exhibit on babies...
and the part that I found interesting is a poster they had hanging explaining that it IS possible to die of a broken heart. How very sad.

The only way I made it through was telling myself that they were all plastic life-like sculptures. That seemed to work pretty well.

Anyone else in SLC get to go see this or have a desire? I would love to hear what you thought of it...

Ahhhh.. Namaste!

After about 3 weeks of thinking about it non-stop.. I hauled myself to a yoga class. It is not my typical Bikram class (Though I luuuv me some Bikram Yoga!)

I figured I owe it to myself to try many different styles and studios.
The lucky studio today?

The Yoga Center

I was fortunate enough to take a class from the studio owner, Leslie.
The class was very low key, full of smiles, human element and down-to-earthedness, and personalize attention. It was a anusara-inspired yoga class. Very centered around the heart and opening up.. or "being open to grace"

I left there feeling very calm, inspired, and smiling. Leslie has a wonderful spirit and you can tell it is in her nature to teach and nurture.

Who ordered this white stuff?

Yes ladies and gentlemen, it IS that time of year...
Big Fuzzy Boots
Hot steamy mugs of warm beverages
leaving the house 10 minutes early to make sure the car is cleared
extra blankets on the bed

Yes indeed, winter is upon us.

:(

And it is not even Halloween yet!!!
I was in Ogden yesterday and they had seven measurable inches of snow (not counting the stuff that dissolved first)
I am not ready!
I want more shorts, more iced lattes and more sunny days :(

Yup.. I am just going to keep whining....

The Girl Effect

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Ahhh...

Is there nothing better than get 2 uninterrupted hours of work done in your favorite coffee shop with your favorite cup of coffee?
I think not!
I encourage anyone that can do so, to do it! You would be amazed how much you get done when you are relaxed, focused and on a mission!

Who Loves Google?

If you love GOOGLE.COM raise your hand!!
(raising my hand...)
(raising my OTHER hand...)
(raising my feet!....)
Ok.. now that I look silly I will tell you why I love Google even more!
You can TEXT google!
You can text to google (466453)and it will respond with the search results. For example I texted "Utah" and it gave me the most recent sports scores.
You can type in a business name and it will give you the phone number and address....
it is wonderful and way better than calling 411 and getting charged $1.50 or listening to lots of ads for the free information services.
I have 466453 saved as Google in my contacts and it is very handy.
You can thank me later ;)
